				Matte finnish?

Hi all, I've just about settled on a T1 as my first e-reader

To do this properly, I'd want to remove the plastic bezel to avoid getting sand in buttons and internals, so the question I have is, how difficult are the T1s to disassemble? Are the bezels easily removed, or are they an integral part of the frame/assembly? I've only physically looked at one once, and I'm assuming the internals are pretty compact. Thanks! |

Rather than intentionally damaging it and probably voiding the warranty, why not get a DecalGirl skin to cover it?

If you sand the bezel, you WILL INVALIDATE the warranty and LOWER the resale value.

That said, get a black T1 and then get the Gecko light cover that covers the bezel. ![]() http://www.geckocovers.com/product_i...products_id=71 Last edited by JSWolf; 01-06-2012 at 04:22 PM. |

I'm not a fan of the T1 at all, the shiny bezel being a huge detriment to me. But wow, I'll admit that lighted cover you just posted is probably the best one I've seen yet and would make at least the glare a non-issue for me.

Anyway, fine wire wool is what you need, not paper sprinkled with grit !!

Don't use sand paper! Try first something like 'Scotch Brite', the green dish washer thing. I matten the metall surface of my (expensive) wrist watch with it and it functions and looks well.

3M the maker of Scotch Brite, has a extensive line of very fine sanding products avaialbe at the home center. Avoid the ones sold in supermarkets with the sponge attached, they are not fine enough. Alternatively the ones made for cleaning glass stove tops also work. I used the finest of these on just the side edges (sorry my phone just can't get a good picture of this). I did that so that it would grip better in my hands. I don't know why the engineers did not continue the nice high grip material in the back to the side edges.

I am still undecided as to doing the entire front, as I am looking to get a case anyways and thus make the need go away. You can also go back to glossy with the use of automotive fine scratch removing liquid, just apply and rub until you get the level of glossy that you desire. I found this out when I had to remove some scratches caused by my grandson, who desired to operated grandpa's new toy with a spoon. This trick also works all the acrylics and plastics used in computer parts, remotes, bezel around your TV. Shinny things are magnets for scratches. |

Paying out a little more for a skin like the DecalGirl linked to above seems to be a far better option than defacing your T1. However, I wonder, is the red or white less of a shiny finish than the black?

Someone posted some pictures with a black matte skin in the T1 cover thread (see the link below). From photos it appears that the red is also glossy, but the white seems less so.

The matte black skin looks pretty good. I might have to seize one for myself.

Ditto on the matte black decal girl skin, rather than ruining the device, invalidating the warranty, risking damaging it, etc.

I've got a white T1 and for me the glossy finish is hardly noticeable and hasn't been a problem/irritation so far.

I didn't really notice the reflective black gloss edge much when I first got my T1, until it was mentioned in a review I watched on YouTube. Now I can't stop looking at it, and more so the fine scratches showing up where I've run my finger across the edge to remove dust. Oh, well! I might consider a skin but I find lighted leather covers a tad heavy....

For someone who needs stuff to be aligned perfectly, I had lots of trouble putting this on. It was also half an inch off (longer) so I had to make some adjustments using some of the left-over skin (see 4th pic, top of T1 screen). I'm not sure if it was stretched because of my pulling. But it took the annoying glare and fingerprint problems away, so it's highly recommended! |
