OMG, I could barely get on Chicago Public Library. Wonder if the number of ebooks to pbooks purchased will change?

Yes indeed, I amusedly watched how long it took for pages to come up on my library's digital lending. People headed straight for the library after opening their gifts and finding e-readers.

I was looking around Clevnet for older Science Fiction titles (btw: no Asimov, no Heinlein, only 2 A. C. Clarkes, no Greg Bear, etc., but they have all the paranormal, shape-shifter, vampire romances you can shake a stick at) Anyway, I can't say I noticed any real slow down.

Adelaide library has only just started doing ebooks and as they haven't really publicised this service I think there are only about 20 people using them! They also have a very limited selection. However, I don't this luxury service will last and I can see people catching on very quickly.

I know. But when you try to tell the kids today about that, they just don't believe you. I love Monty Python. Also, my local library seems okay so far, but the Singapore Public Library was very slow the other day when I tried to borrow from them. |

Didn't this happen last year at this time? And everyone was calling for gloom and doom then too? Meanwhile, I happily borrowed books for the rest of the year. eP |

That gloom and doom was over the announcement of Kindle books at US libraries before it actually happened. But this slowdown is real and it is happening now.

108 patron on waiting list for 11 copies of Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. But, I reckon there would be a waiting list for the print versions too. There are still books on my wish list that are available for immediate checkout, but not nearly as many as there were a week ago.

The Phoenix Digital Library definitely had a slowdown, but today didn't seem too terrible. My wish list, which is ridiculously long (I'm working on it, I swear ) wouldn't even load a couple of days ago. Quote:

My local library has 52 copies of The Help ebook. There are 70 people on the wait list. 57 copies of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. There are 112 people on the wait list. |

So in a way, 2011 at least didn't go as bad as 2010.

Well, I for one find myself coming off the wait list and checking out about 3 books a week and I find I often don't have time to read them. So all's good for me. Except they don't have that new Tami Hoag book that I'm wanting to read. I could hissy about that for awhile I guess. Why don't they immediately have all the books I want to read? |
