I finsihed A Christmas Carol today and am ready for another try at Who Will Tell the People? The Betrayal of American Democracy, by William Greider. If I don't stick with it this time, I'll probably abandon it for good.

Just finished Georgette Heyer's The Foundling. Not my favourite Heyer, but still an enjoyable read. I've got a bunch of her books in my TBR since I stocked up in September when they had the big sale. Now reading Dragonsdawn by Anne McCaffrey. I got the three volume compilation On Dragonwings as ePubs from the library, and thought it was as good a time as any to re-visit Pern.

Currently looking to tackle a few books during Christmas break (10 days away from the office yay!) - Recently finished 'Last Light' and 'Afterlight' by Alex Scarrow, both very disturbing books, how poeple pitch this as Young Adult I'll never know . So, that out of the way, I'm going all grim into the 41st millenium with Black Library's 'Fear The Alien', a collection of 40k stories with a distinctive xenos orientation. Interestingly, not always told from the human point of view, making it interesting what I'm going to read next. If I get any cash this Christmas, I'll put it on Neal Stephensons 'Reamde' and ditch everything to read that. |

I'm reading Roger Zelazny's Doorways in the Sand. Another excellent book by him. I'll comment more once I finish it. Finally, I have some time to catch up on my reading!

Currently reading Mr. Norell and Jonathon Strange. It's long and rambling, but very good so far. The Dickens style of writing that the author goes for always reminds me of Christmas, so that might be colouring my opinion just a bit. I've also been meaning to read "And Another Thing" for months now, but something is keeping me from cracking it open. I loved Douglas Adams' books, and I think I'm a little worried this will put those memories in a negative light. |

After a bit of a slump, I'm now continuing Beasts and Super-Beasts by Saki, for the Literary Book Club. It is an animal themed short story collection. So far it has been an odd but amusing mix of moralistic, funny, sarcastic and/or painful.

Finished Dragonsdawn by Anne McCaffrey. I had completely forgotten virtually all the details, and thoroughly enjoyed the book. It covers the landing on Pern up to the time of the first dragons fighting thread. I'd give it a 4 out of 5.

Started "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet" I'm enjoying it but... had to borrow a pbook from the local library as couldn't get it as an e library book and it's so big I'm having a lot of trouble reading it with one wrist in a splint. This of course is not the fault of the book, but it would be easier on the ereader.

I'm currently reading "Six Days of the Condor" by James Grady. The 1975 movie Three Days of the Condor starring Robert Redford was based on it. It's really interesting so far. I was so engrossed in it the other day that I nearly missed my bus stop!

Next: Well, fortuitously, the next Agatha Christie on my list, her 32nd book, is Hercule Poirot's Christmas by Agatha Christie. I can't resist. | |

Reading my first DTB this year (a Christmas present). It is Dark Matter: A Ghost Story by Michelle Paver. About quarter of the way through, and so far so good. Paver has evoked the majesty and starkness of the Arctic superbly, and is setting up the story to come very well.
