I counted up my list this year and I got fourteen countries, I think. I'd like to roughly double that next year, to somewhere in the 25 to 30 range, which means checking off one every other week. That seems a sufficient commitment.

I managed 8 countries this year which seems like a terrible number to me. Definitely something else to guide reading selections. I do need to read more from my own country though.

That's what I've been thinking, too. I know next to nothing about my own country's literature.

Go for it! Over the last couple of years I've made an effort to find SF&F authors from my own country (Ireland) and have been rewarded with some amazing stories and a thriving SF&F convention circuit.

I made it to 50, which is less than the year before. Having to switch to exclusively audiobooks because of my eyes slowed me even more. It takes me forever to listen to a book. I do the 15 min timer, because it puts me to sleep.

On my iPhone (& I think on the iPod Touch as well), there's a '2x' speed button for audio books and podcasts. It does some really clever audio processing, so that it speeds up the playback without changing the pitch. It works really well.

I can safely say that I haven't read many of my country's most well-known authors. No Margaret Atwood, no Pierre Berton (although I hate history so that's not really bugging me), no Robertson Davies, no Michael Ondaatje.

I'm using the Nation Library Service's Talking Book Library for the blind and their player. It has a speed thing also. I will try speeding it up and see if I can follow. Good idea, thanks!

I've hit 55 books. No way I'll be reading 45 before January. But it's been a good reading year. I've been reading some books I've never thought to read that I rather enjoyed such as Sarah's Key. Next year, I hope to hit more then this year. One thing I hope to do in 2012 is finish off a bunch of ongoing series I have going. |

I am at 92, so probably. And this surprised me. I met a boy in July, and have not been reading nearly as much since Goals for next year: get back into the reviewing (perhaps on Goodreads), read some better stuff (I too read a lot of piffle---entertaining piffle, but piffle just the same) and make a concerted effort to spend a LOT less and read through some of what I have already. |

The Terminator will be letting someone else run the challenge next year and I have been offered the opportunity. It is now the 2012 Annual Reading Challenge! The main difference from the 100 Book Challenge is that we will all be setting our own individual challenges. I hope to see all of you there. |
