I knew it would happen, not too far in the future (she was getting on in age...), but it's still a shock hearing this! Good writers shouldn't be allowed to die! RIP, Anne. And lots of strength to the rest of the family. Let us not forget the woman who brought us dragons that weren't dragons! |

My condolences to her family. I really enjoyed her books. She has I think achieved some small measure of immortality.

My condolences. Her books about Pern are one of the first real fantasy books I read when I was young at my library (in Spain). However, "Rowan" and "Restoree" are the two books I treasure in my library (and I've got in digital format when I've been able to do it). RIP

How sad to hear this. I still have her Crystal Singer novels and have reread them over the years.

It's funny, well sad I guess, yesterday i was lamenting to someone about how much it sucked that I didn't make it to this year's dragoncon because I was going to get both Anne Mccaffe and Elizabeth Moon to sign my copy of Sassinak. So it goes I guess. RIP Anne. |

I'm sorry to say that I have never read any of her work, though Killashandra has been recommended to me and it's on my TBR list.

I was a huge, huge, huge Dragonriders of Pern fan as a kid, the first six novels were when I was growing up, and the computer game for the C-64 was one I played all the time. Considering all the other cruddy fantasy movies trying to cash in on the LOTR craze, I can't believe there wasn't a movie version of that (though now that I look, apparently one is in the works, sad it took so long) |

Everywhere you go, the people who were lucky enough to have met Anne, all rave about how wonderful she was as a person. It seems she touched a lot of people in 85 her years... and not only through her writing, but also through her personality and charisma. Not much else you can ask for, I guess. RIP |

RIP I first read her Pern stories in Analog. I still remember waiting for the White Dragon. C'mon tell us about RUTH. Now! I will second Crystal Singer (series) as a great read. |

As anybody who has ever read the wonderful lady's books can probably tell by my username I am extremely sad right now. I never met Anne but have had many long and interesting conversations with her via email over the years, she was a joy to talk to always interested in hearing your points of view even if they didn't always coincide with her own. I've read and re-read her books so many times over the years I probably know them off by heart. Favourites would have to be The Dragonsong Trilogy (Cause they were the first of her books I read and gripped me with her characterisation), the Crystal Singer Trilogy (I remember when the last book came out, totally unexpected because there was such a long time after the second one that I don't think anybody thought it was a trilogy, I bought the Hardcover because I didn't want to wait for the paperback, took it home and read it in one sitting ) and The Tower and the Hive series. You will be sadly missed RIP Anne McCaffrey. |

My first book that I read was White Dragon. I quickly found the other 2, then re-read White Dragon. I was hooked! I've missed the last few books that have come out with Todd as co-author but found them on the Kobo site so will ensure that I pick them up. Anne did find out that Dragonriders of Pern, the set of 3, will be made into a movie. Before she died. So that is something that we can all watch out for. And Mnementh, great name! |
