Back from Borders, my weekly browse through titles and next installment in the slow seduction of the funky cute counter clerk, where I was stopped in my tracks by a new book in the Science section, "Love + Sex with Robots: The Evolution of Human-Robot Relationships".

I immediately thought of you, followed by thinking of Xena, then laughing a quickly cut short laugh of the type favored by the walking insane at the fact that Robot-Human Love/Sex made me think of Xena the Warrior Princess and deep dish pizza. This place is poking around in the already faulty wiring of my brain.

This is clearly a book I need to buy if only for the look of mixed shock and intense curiosity it'd elicit from Miss Funky Cute.

The button comes from the disdain that mathematicians have for physicists. Math uses precise values for integers. Physicists have a propensity to round off. So, 2.4 + 2.4 = 4.8, rounded up to 5 if the significant digit protocol for the calculation is one. For some reason this distresses mathematicians.

I would have thought defenestrate might have derived from German due to the similarity of the German word "fenster". But the "de" prefix does seem to point to Latin

My personal favorite is heteroscadasticity. Not to be confused with homoscadasticity. Ran into this combination while working on my dissertation.

i've always been intrigued by this as well. in french window is "fenêtre" and we have the verb "défenestrer." these words come from the latin "fenestra". i don't know what the origin of "Fenster" is but i would like it if a german could tell me...
