Got my new K4 (non-touch) today. Works great but I had to go to a local MacDonalds with free wifi to properly register it.

Also, while I could easily access the Kindle Store, I did not seem to ber able to access any other web sites.

I'm just getting a home wifi connection so maybe this will improve things?

You should be able to access all websites from a WiFi connection. It could be something was wrong with Mickey's Ds connection. Once you get your Wireless network going you will like it alot better.

Absolutely agree.

I don't need touch, color, or distractions like MP3, browsing or apps; it suits me just fine to have a small, light device with a nice screen. The fast page turns are a nice bonus, and I haven't noticed any pixel glitches between full refreshes. The case looks and feels great too.

Yes, for a basic eReader it's quite nice. I guess here in the states they don't come with a case but I bought a nice Belkin leather case for $25. Black leather, magnet clip to keep it closed and when reading keep the cover back nicely. Small pocket on the inside. Nothing fancy but it looks good and fits right. It's amazing how few male friendly cases there are.

I'm not sure why you couldn't access other websites but I know that some public Wi-Fi accesses have weak signals or are just plain bad. It might be better when you get your Wi-Fi setup.

Also I looked at these against the Nook Touch and the Nook's screen doesn't seem as sharp. I'm wondering how they get so many differences if they are running the same screen.

Anyway, are you finding the background seems lighter? That was always my nit pick with the eink. I wanted a lighter background.

Not on my K4 the background is darker than my K3. Some have gotten lighter then their K3 but a few of us had to exchange ours to get a better one. I finally wound up changing the font on my replacement to be able to read with it. My K3 background is near white and my K4 is light gray.

For $79 it's well worth, it is pearl and it does run beautifully!

I prefer the K4 over the K3 because it's light, tiny and just convenient to take with you. It's like they took portability of the pocket 5" eReaders and gave it a 6" screen. It's a wonderful combo!

I've also noticed that my new K4 background is a little grayer than my K3. I've found two things that seems to help this;

Restart your K4 (menu/settings/menu/restart). This seems to lighten the background a little. I do this every ~2-3 weeks on my DXG and it seems to help it as well.

When you have finished reading something, turn the K4 off by holding the on/off button until the screen goes blank (btw, this does not actually power-off the K4, just puts into sleep mode without screensavers) . This avoids those, very dark K4 screensavers and this seems to improve/lighten the K4 background a bit. I think you get a lot of residual black left over from these silly screensavers.

Using both of these tricks, my K4 background is a bit better but still not as as white as my K3 and DXG. I think that Amazon is going to need to address this imho.

It's a very light creme color. Text is deep black. I originally thought everyone had the same background till I got my K4 then I learned how lucky I got on my first try. I had to plan to sell it but after I learned what I know now I decided to keep it till I see what screen the touch has.

Yes only once though. You can do that at any WiFi hotpot like a McDonalds then use the PC to sideload your books.

I usually do a full refresh. Hold Keyboard key and hit back button.
