I'm a Vernon Vinge "fan" so yes, I've enjoyed all of his work that I've read. A Fire Upon the Deep won the Hugo in 93.

A Fire Upon the Deep was a great book, immensely enjoyable, and very smart sci-fi. Looking forward getting the sequel, although I might have to go back and reread the first one, it's been years.

Edit: just went on the Amazon website, and some of the comments are atrocious. I'll still go and buy it, but it was interesting to see that much scathing criticism from obvious Vinge fans. Also note that the sony store has a 0.99$ short story entitled "After the Battle on Starship Hill", subtitled "Prequel to the Children of the Sky and Sequel to a Fire Upon the Deep".

My son just told me he spent the first half of this book remembering what happened in "Fire Upon the Deep"

Tricky, but worth mastering, even for such a lovely self-sufficient flower........

Often thought if I did come back as fauna, I'd like it to be as a sweetpea, looks, fragrance, too short a life to have much hassle, and loved by all.

Apart from one quality, pretty much my situation now.......

Full disclosure, I'm only part way into the first book, but have read most of his earlier work and it is all very good stuff.
