I'm currently reading Naked in Death by JD Robb. I realized that since I got my reader, I read a lot more than I used to. Maybe it's the fact of not having to carry around big books that makes me read more (in waiting rooms, at the restaurant, etc.). But since getting my Reader, I've read over 30 books... |

Currently reading 'The Sky People' by S. M. Stirling. It ain't brilliant - I've just passed half way, and it's about good enough to keep me going to the end. It's an interesting premise (Venus is habitable, and inhabited by various exotic species when Earthmen arrive - cue rehash of classic SF pulp adventure yarn). But the general characterisation is lacking - people 'chuckle' and 'grin' a lot for no apparent reason, and I'm finding the main protagonist irritating. 6 /10 |

I'm (re)reading "Halfway to Halfway" by Suzanne Ledbetter. Modern murder/romance novel. I bought it a year ago for my Palm pda, instead read it on my Kindle .... and then learned that it was book #5. Numbers 1 to 4 aren't available in ebook format. I trundled over to eBay and bought 1, 2, 3, and 4 in paperback (fun, very light quick reads) and now am RE-reading #5 mentioned in the first line. To catch up on all the back references, now that I've read the first four books too. |

So far , surprisingly good . Bit wordy for my taste - that's presumably the style of the time . Interesting love story with descriptive narrative of the age . Only thing I find a little off-putting is lapses into latin , german and french - none of which I am familiar - and my onboard dictionary can't find some of the english words . |

If you need any help with the Latin, Geoff, please feel free to ask. Latin is my "thing".

I finished Prince of Dogs by Kate Elliott. I think the second book was better than the first. Less talk, more action. Although some things were annoying. As Da used to say every time the story returns to Liath...a boring storyline of a brother and sister who escaped from Gent.... Otherwise a good sequel to King's Dragon. 4 out of 5. I am going to take a brief respite and read Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny. Last edited by astra; 05-09-2008 at 06:02 AM. |
