And now I get this email from Amazon: Your public library loan will expire in 3 days Buy Now! Not sure I'm liking this so much.... |

The good news is that everything I need to know is in the subject of the email. So, there's no need for me to open them any more. |

I've been getting these too. I don't mind really, it's just one email per book. Amazon has to do something to recoup the money this is costing them. I guess I sound like an Amazon apologist, but I'll accept a few extra emails in exchange for easy library book borrowing.

Well, I get 2 to 3 marketing emails from Amazon nearly every single day, so that isn't so much of a surprise. I rarely read anything from Amazon unless I've sent them a customer service email first and I'm looking for a reply. There's a reason that I have a separate gmail account just for Amazon. They market like crazy, no doubt.

In the 8 months I've had my K3 (now with over 500 titles on board) I have never accessed the Kindle store on my Kindle - all my browsing/buying has been on my laptop, downloading via 3G. I've already borrowed several books from the New York Public Library (they have over 15,000 titles for Kindle, with over 9000 available for immediate borrowing). Downloading to my computer and transferring to K3 via USB is no big deal - quite easy. Is it as fast as a direct-download would be? Of course not, but it's a lot easier/faster/more convenient than the way I've had to get library books for most of my life. |

No. You actually were confusing the issue and kept compounding it by spewing paragraph after paragraph of history lessons on Kindle models and hardware. You know your Kindle models well - we get it. This is your original post where your confusion began: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=27 JSWolf's point was that in order to check out and send borrowed library e-books to your Kindle, you need a computer. You confused the issue by bringing up *this* and *that* model have WiFi and/or 3G. You even asked "What am I missing?" What zoomed over your head is the point that JSWolf (and tubemonkey) were trying to make. You physically need a computer to complete the borrowing of a public library e-book, regardless if your Kindle has WiFi or not. The 2nd and final step of sending the e-book to your Kindle requires a computer. If this doesn't clear up your confusion, then I don't know what will so I will leave it at that. |

The bad about the Philly ebook selection, like my local library selection, is 1) too few and 2) always out. I think the Kindle users are making #2 even worse. What I usually do is think ahead so that way by the time I'm finishing up on my current book, or two, my ebook might be free. Oh well, them's the breaks. Quote:

Of course, I'd prefer that there be some indication of this in the reading system itself. Maybe they'll get around to adding that, in the mean time this is better than nothing IMO.

Yes, it'd be very helpful if the library book's due date would be displayed on the Kindle, perhaps when you right-click on the book title from the Home screen. It'd also be nice if they would indicate that it's a library loan. They could put the word "library" to the left of the book title, like they do with PDFs and samples.

Yeah, that is a bad thing about the implementation. Same with Sony/ADE though. In the ADE software on the computer it has a Status, but on your Kindle page at amazon it has the type "Public Library" etc and the expiration date. Would be nicer if the info was available in the Kindle or Kindle App.
