Another round in the Samsung vs Apple war

Apparantly the patent war between Apple and Samsung wasnt enough Samsung has taken it another step further. wich of course apple will later try to one up this salvo. http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/19/s...ts-anti-apple/ I like my devices from both companies but this is getting ridiculous. Next thing My Samung Television wont work with my Ipad2 if they keep this up! i just wish they would both grow up and stop this. |

Do you think there should be no patents or trademarks? Because some of this conflict is based on legitimate protection of their intellectual property. The question of where to draw the line is set by the courts. In America, it is set earlier by the USPTO which I would agree is falling down on the job (allowing some obvious patents).

I'm loving it. Patent laws are in shambles and patents are granted way too easy. These courts battles are the inevitable result. Food fight in the tech cafeteria. |

They don't compare to "patent trolls" because they are both engaging in products that require, or step on, the intellectual property in dispute. The suits originated to protect their products. The patent acquisition frenzy is just an arms war but neither of them wrote the rules of engagement. They're just battling in the existing legal system(s).

An even sillier round: Apple is now officially skinner than Samsung, at least in the UK: http://appadvice.com/appnn/2011/09/u...ot-galaxy-s-ii |

Patents are necessary but I agree with others who have noted that the current system is way too permissive. It's a huge problem in software as well, where even things as stupid as One-Click shopping are patented. Hopefully the more widely publicized cases like this that there are, the more impetus there will be for revisiting the patent system. |
