It seems to me that eating anything on two legs is a bad idea.
This naturally includes myself.
I have even been making sure the seed I have been eating would leave anyone who eats me with an unpleasant taste and possibly even make them ill.

But wouldn't eating poor-quality seed result in you making yourself ill? Plus, with proper preparation it is possible to overcome an unpleasant taste by adding ingredients that counter that taste.
