Glad to help spend your money. Besides being more comfortable to hold, the 505's new Vizplex screen is something you'll really enjoy more then the 500's screen. |

The thing is that I never had a problem with the 500's screen. Probably take one look at the 505 and realise that the 500 was crap?

I was looking at the picture of the 505 more closely. If I hold it in my left hand, how do you change the page? With the 500, I could use either hand.

The 505 has page turn buttons on the bottom left much like the 500.

Not necessarily, but if you used the 505 for a week and then went back to reading on the 500, then I think you would realise just how much better the 505's screen is.

Please stop - you're all killing me!! I love my 500, but I'm really tempted by the 505. I went to the 'big city' this weekend and when I asked the guy behind the counter at Barnes & Nobles if they had the Sony Reader so I could look at it, he didn't have a clue what I was talking about (he asked me if it was a magazine - still didn't have a clue when I said 'kindle'), so I thought I was going to be safe from temptation. Mobileread is a dangerous place to be..... Kathy |

Yeah, what was going to cost me about $150 used is now going to cost over $300 new. Oh well. Considering my 500 cost about $300 and it is now lying on my floor with a destroyed screen, what is $300 more? (gad, think of all the books I could have bought with that money) Again, thanks everyone for all the assistance. Last edited by Tom Swift; 04-23-2008 at 10:02 PM. |

I will not discuss ergonomics because it is very personal issue. But a new screen.....it is so much better than 500 that I would not hesitate one moment but buy 505. Even my wife, who is very remote from gadgets and PCs, recently told me that now she can see the difference between 500 (I russified [there is no such a word in English, is there? ] it for her) and my 505 and she would like to have the same screen. If she notices the difference, it says a lot! It is very noticeable in-doors. Actually, what Harry_T said in the beginning of this topic. |

Last month, I bid a 500 from ebay for US$142. Everything is beyond my expectation, especially there are so many wonderful hacks. The only problem is the screen. It is only marginally readable under dim room light, the contrast isn't good enough. It is OK under bright light though. So I think it depends very much on your reading habit and reading environment. Anyway, I paid only half price so can't complain too much. |

I considered the 500 a lot but, in the end, delayed till the 505 came out and am glad I did. I got the dark blue because I thought the contrast would be better. But the fact is, it really doesn't make any difference. I find the ergonomics just fine and easily fall into reading it as though it was a book. I don't think you'll be disappointed. |

After using the 500 for a long time, I couldn't quite justify the 505 for screen differences until I actually saw one in a SonyStyle store. The pictures we have here, on the forum, didn't do justice to the improvement, in my opinion. I got to work on E-bay, and now own both. Until I tried it myself, in my varied lighting conditions, I would have never believed the difference! As said by others, particularly in low light. I am only sorry I waited so long.... Now, what to do with the 500? |
