When it came out it didn't have one. It's also good know they fixed the storage error and battery issues alot were having. Kobo Customer support has been like jumping through hoops for me in the pasts. They always resolved the issues but not before I had to explain myself to several different people, provide screenshots and want to pull my hair out. lol I'm just spoiled with Kindle's Customer service I guess. The quilted back was a major issue for me. How do you keep it clean of cat hair, dust and pollen? It not like you can take it off and wash it can you? I have really bad allergies. If I touch the wrong thing I get hives. My K3 gets all kinds of dirt, hair stuck around the screen. It gets pushed in there with no way to clean it out. I do not like Sony the company. We had issues in the past with them but the new reader is something I can't say no too. I don't think I will have to deal with their C.S. If I get a in store warranty or Squaretrade.

) of soap/detergent works well enough for keeping my Kobo Clean, though it sounds like you'd be a candidate for a case/cover. Anyway let us know how you go if and/when you get one (SONY Reader).

What do you think the odds are that the browser is just completely useless outside of the "pure, ereader" experience? Like, what if you can't save a page even though the wikipedia search gave you information on the word; if you try to download an unsupported format (anything but pdf, epub) for free from the web, it says "format not supported", no support for non western languages, so if you find yourself on a wikipedia page in a "weird" language, it's all just garbage or empty boxes instead of text. Wifi is interesting only when you're near an access point. For example, you can't take this "to the beach" and still look up google and wikipedia...and not being android, you can't load local dictionaries and encyclopedias to use where there's no wifi. |

What are the dimensions on this? I googled but did not find. I thought the nook looks oddly short but this looks too long. It's not going to fit in my jacket pocket.

In the video did he say £129? If so, isn't that about that same as €149? After VAT it's almost the same as $149. Maybe $20 more which could be add'l customs/shipping costs. Nice to see similar pricing so far. |

For epub, it has to generate the screen on its own, when ever you change pages. If you have a poorly made ePub that is just one giant HTML file, this can really bog down things. I've had it where my 505 is chugging, for a couple seconds each time I change the page, because it is having to grab text starting with the next visible character, start laying out with reference to font size chosen and screen resolution, and then stopping when it reaches the limit for what can be shown on the screen. When you have one giant file, it has to keep the entire thing in memory, and parse further and further into it, every time you change page.

I'm spreading this around - mainly because I can't somehow bring myself to believe . But this was at a launch [ we having one in UK I wonder ?] From WendyH in the Sony section :- "The Sony guy that I spoke to said that as there would still be no Sony Store in Australia, the only way you could obtain books via wifi in Australia was through Google or the library. He may have been wrong, but he said you could not buy books using the browser. I asked him about other stores such as Borders and Kobo, and he said you would not be able to buy from them using wifi. I asked what was the point of having wifi then and he said you could use it to look things up about whatever you were reading e.g. find out more info about something written in the book." Quote, WendyH. So, what is the point. From this, it seems that even if Sony do eventually open the famous Sony bookstore.... you still won't be able to buy from Waterstones etc.. ? Gordon Bennett....... |
