Looking for a Tablet

I am looking for a tablet. I don't need something for serious work. I am looking for a device that will allow me to surf the net, watch movies, check email, and the like when I am traveling. I have a full computer at home but I can see myself playing stupid facebook games in bed while watching tv with the Hubby. I do not want an IPad. I want to be able to play silly facebook games on my tablet. I tried my friends IPad and the games I played did not work on the IPad. My Husband has an Archos HD device that is 4 inches big and he really likes it. I am looking for something under $300 and would like something 7-10 inches. I don't need 3G, I won't be using it enough to justify paying for a data package and I am counting on being able to use WiFi in places that I travel. That could be a dangerous assumption though. Right now I am looking at the Archos 101 Internet Tablet. I am open to anything. I would love to know what Amazon is going to release but I doubt that I am going to find out in time for my Birthday and I would like something for a trip to Hawaii and Australia in October. |

It's $100 over your price limit, but have you looked at the Asus Transformer? It has a fast processor and gorgeous screen. When paired with its keyboard, it becomes a netbook. Battery life for the tablet is eight hour; when paired with a keyboard, it lasts for 16 hours. I'm still testing that on mine. I've been using it off and on for the last day and a half, and the battery indicator says that it's 99% charged.

Just check out http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/webos/us/en/ every day. They're selling the Touchpad 16gb for $99 cause HP is getting out of the consumer PC business. As stores start to return them to HP they should return to stock. Ordered one from Best Buy myself this morning (now sold out).

You can try to get the HP tablet which is going on sale for $99 (you'll have to look around to get this deal)at Best Buy or $300 at Amazon Else there is nothing out in the market that supports those features at your price point. The closest are The Acer Ionica 500 is $360 10" The Acer Inoica 100 will be $329 7" (suppose to release in sept) The next ones are Thrive $390 and Acer $400 =X=

Have a look at the galaxy tab, the 7" version, it has a very good price now that all the honeycombs 10.1" are out and all the hype.

Thanks for the help! I am researching some new choices. If you have any more ideas, I am open. And if anyone knows anything about composters, I am trying to figure out which one I want. |

I have an Archos 70IT (7" screen and 8 gig memory with another 32 in the Micro sd slot) and find it perfect for silly little games (java and flash) great for watching television and movies and basic internet (surfing and short emails). Right now they are really cheap on ebay as retailers sell them off in preparation for the new Gen 9 stuff that is coming in September.

... just joking ... I would suggest the Lenovo or most recent Samsung Galaxy 10 inches. Yes, the Galaxy wifi does not have a lot of ports, but it is very well built and the colors and resolution are great! I've played with those two and they are smooth and fast. I do also like the Asus, but it is kind of heavy for my taste. I know you said no iPad, but there are plenty of games and apps. for the iPad. However, if you really need Flash or games that use it, that will be a limited factor. Also, will sound crazy, but the HP tablet is on sale for 99.99. It has flash support and Kindle for webOs. Keep in mind that the on going support will be limited or none, but for that price, is a great deal, cheaper than a Kindle 3.

The other caveat it does not run HoneyComb (Android's latest 3.x) but runs 2.2. =X=

The Viewsonic G Tablet has a crappy screen though (try propping it up on a table and viewing anything)
