I'll nominate yet another book that's sure to please... Let's have a round of applause for...The Book of Fate by Brad Meltzer. Reading the description may make you want to read it now instead of waiting for it to win.

I would like to nominate a book i keep seeing on the shelf. It is on my TBR list.
The girl with the dragon tattoo by Stieg Larsson From Amazon: An international publishing sensation, Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combines murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue into one satisfyingly complex and entertainingly atmospheric novel. Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden's wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption. |

I'll second No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I watched the too-short series and absolutely loved it.
ETA - In case anyone missed it in the description, the story is set in Botswana, Africa, and the story is about a Botswana woman who decides to open a little detective agency for the locals. I think a policy of disallowing books that have been read in the previous year should continue, but older books should be allowed. While the bookclub is a good way to introduce folks to new material, we are always getting new members and we shouldn't limit their interest. |
