SCION, out of morbid curiosity, what did you do to get suspended? I've never been suspended here. Many years ago I was suspended from an AOL chat room I frequented. I felt like my life had ended and the emotional turmoil was larger than when I got divorced.

Well, MR addiction doesn't apply to everyone. Just those who stay on MR hours every day like a progressive drink-every-day alcoholic, or those who binge. I personally am an MR binge-er. I easily stayed away from here for two months while in what I thought of as "work mode" (building my library). Then I had a question the other day - one little question about regex - slipping back into learn-mode (like a slipping alcoholic) and here I am MR-binge-ing again. I thought I could handle one little question...

Yeah, I like Cliff too. I think I say enough off-the-wall things to qualify. Not necessarily trivia, but often inane and irrelevant.

there are several threads here playing similar tunes (this, neils "why ppl stay at MR" and leliekellys appreciation thread) the answer is simple: since we are mostly bookworms from various fields of interest, ages and places the chance of getting involved into an interesting/funny/inspiring/u_name_it conversation with interesting people is significantly higher than average. I found myself here discussing things from physics, techstuff, social and linguistic phenomena, books up to woman (always a worthy topic)... etc.pp. I'd call myself a moron were I not lurking around here. In fact I still have a discussion via PM in waitstate since because I'm working trough reference material (sorry Stitchawl I haven't forgotten you I'm just reading) there are at least 2 topics I haven't started yet 'cause I haven't a chunk of time in one piece to properly express said ideas. MY reason for MRoholism is just the same as for using MP3-player during travel with public transportation - I'm allergic to idiocy. |

Units of time bigger than "hours" frighten me. I once went into a self-induced coma simply because someone had the nerve to ask me; "what are you doing tomorrow?" | |
