I liberated my kindle dx graphite from its case. this thing is no rinky dink sony. brushed metal back; looks like a gosh darn home appliance. i only live once. the weight of the case is actually negligible, but it's so much easier to use, naked, also cool to the touch. i'll carry it in a paper bag. I really don't think is a good idea. eInk devices are fragile. It's an expensive mistake if you break the screen. I would (and do) always keep them in a sturdy case.

I keep my nook color in a case....but take it out to read it. The case actually did nothing to preserve my nook color when I dropped it while falling asleep LOL. It's got a nice ding in the corner |

Be a bit like self-inflicted Thugee............... Harry's right - if you'm rich, liberate it, and order a few for spares, or cosset it in it's duvet if you'm poor......... 'Course, if they made the things shock-proof etc... there wouldn't be a problem. | |

I use my K3 almost exclusively without a case. The only time it is in the lighted case is when I need the light or I am traveling.
