Are the ads only on the screen savers page? What about the home page with your list of books/collections? What about if you turn 3g off?

There is a small banner ad at the bottom of the home page with an ad on it. Not sure what happens if you turn off wireless.

Only the ads and offers currently on the Kindle will be shown. Without new content to replace them, I'm not sure if they'll remain or if they'll disappear when they expire (leaving you with a blank screensaver). But; as soon as you turn on either 3G or WiFi, new ads and offers will be loaded.

Do you plan on keeping WiFi and 3G permanently off?

Not sure. I currently have a Kindle WiFi. I normally keep my WiFi off til I finish reading then turn it on to sync but turn it off after that.

But my husband has been reading a lot lately on his iPhone and may be in the market. He's not sure if he wants ads on it. He's also not sure if he likes the size of the Kindle. He likes something smaller.

Soooo.... I currently have a launch day WiFi only. I was seriously considering getting this deal and selling my WiFi only one. I'll probably still get the K4 or whatever it is called when it comes out too, but was wondering if people think the Special Offers (Plus 3G which is not as big a deal for me) are good enough to justify doing this or should I just wait for the K4?

Keep in mind that turning WiFi or 3G on for just that length of time is enough time to get new ads.

If you close the cover before your turn it off and to turn it on before you open the cover, you'll never see the ads. As to the small ad banner at the bottom of the home page, I don't even notice it anymore.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking he will wait and see what the K4 brings before he makes a decision. He has patience. Now if it was me, I would have had one yesterday.

Go to the thread - Special Offers for new Kindle (KSO) - and see if the offers presented so far are worth it for you. These offers have already paid for my KSO twice over, so I'm reading on a free Kindle.

Thanks. I went ahead and got it during lunch. I will probably wait to spend the gift card until I sell my current Kindle and know I'm not returning the SO one.

I would like to point out that you can technically earn another $5 if you have a BB Credit Card (Standard, I believe the MC already gets double points). During the checkout process it will ask you if you want interest free for 6 months or 4% rewards (double RZ points). Basically, 140 points becomes 280 which is worth $5 RZ Cert.

So I finally powered up my K3, gotta get the SO for the $1 book today. At first I was really really really concerned. Their wasn't a special offer, just a standard useless Kindle screensaver picture. Agh!!!!!! Did they sell my the regular one? After a bit though, I got the book for a $1 offer. Whew..... a relief.

Overall, I have a love/hate relationship with the K3 over the K2. I love the smaller size and the browser is so much better. I hate the keyboard missing the numbers now, I prefer the K2 power switch/headphone placement and the page buttons are harder to use on the K3. The K2 just seemed classier. The plastic on the K2 seemed "better" and the stainless steel back definitely gave it an air of quality. The K3 seems "cheap" in comparison.

Overall, I wish I could get the K3 guts in a K2 body. But the better browser and special offers win the day for the K3.
