I think he meant a FAQ or wiki entry. |

If we eliminated all those threads, what would be left on the site??? Seriously, this is a low volume news world. Only three major hardware players, with a few minor ones that may (or may not) become common. E-books for download (all praise to the contributors!), but they don't required much commentary, and the occasional firmware upgrade. Es todo. I guess the site needs eyeballs returning (most websites do), and the status quo is a good way to get them.

Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. TV is becoming more mindless every day. People get off watching "reality shows" based around finding new ways to cram bunch of people together and get them to fight. Game shows give them vicarious thrills. Maybe that's what this site should be doing, to increase popularity. Maybe what we need is more of these irate shouting-match threads! I can jump back into the piracy threads, and go for my Harlan Ellison merit badge trying to tick off as many people as possible whilst simultaneously providing evidence that I really am God. Others can get really creative with their emoticons and &#@!*$%#&^@!! characters. And maybe someone can come up with a new e-book format for us all to whine "e-Babel" about! It'll be a blast... the newbies will eat it up! |

Actually the best TV becomes better and better. For example it seems like enough people pay for HBO fro them to make quality television. That inspite of these quality shows being spread on the internet a lot.

That's why more and more cable stations are relaxing their use of broadcast TV standards, to give us programs like Nip-Tuck, The Riches and Dirt (still with plenty of disclaimers to send the kids to bed). Trying to capture the crowd that demands more verisimilitude in their series. But overall, I'd still say these programs are far-outnumbered, and the gap is widening.

I do believe it is worth going over stuff for a new user even if it has been said before. Some people never hear anything until they need to know. And then they need it to be packaged exactly as an answer to their question. It is a fact of life. However, having said that, I have come to the realization recently that the wiki needs an FAQ section and I will probably add one soon as a starter for more participation. Hopefully everyone will spend a little time looking at the wiki and be able to refer folks to topics covered when appropriate. The wiki is getting looked at much more than in the past so I am hopeful it is helping people. At the beginning of this year we had 200 pages and now all of those pages have more than 200 accesses and some pages have many thousands of accesses. Dale |

And I also feel that the FAQ should be a sticky in ever section of MobilRead as well.

Or maybe in the links "bar" at the very top of each page?

Actually simply having the search feature return wiki matches at the top of the list may be a big help, though I don't know how many newbies actually use search.

i thought this was the new thread that never ends ? it seems to have calmed down quite a bit... i thought i would revive it... so, what's everybody doing ? weather nice ? it snowed here this morning, or so i heard, since i was asleep at the time and by the time i got up it had melted... so frustrating : i've been hoping for snow all winter and saw nary a flake, and then when i had given up all hope, suddenly it sneaks up behind me (and then runs away before i can turn around). even sneakier given that on friday, it was around 15° !! i was outside with only my spring jacket, no hat or gloves, and i was still too hot !!! and then 2 days later it snows. i'm so confused. actually i freely admit i'm using this as a diversion tactic in an attempt to keep my pledge (see below)... i swear, some of the stuff people write really scares me. take the pledge ! |

Ok, I am going to add this topic/thread to the list of threads that never end: o Do digital books (ebooks) need margins? Yes, this "discussion" seems to go on and on in many threads and forums. BOb |

i can't help it, it's a hasard of the job i guess... at least it's not as incendiary as the drm / pirate / copyright infringement debate.
