I am just ploughing (because I'm English and not "plowing"!) through Broadcast 5 of Randolph Lalonde's Spindrift Fringe series. All because the first book in the series (actually a prequel) was a freebie on Amazon. I enjoyed it that much I went out (or, more technically, went online) and bought all of the other books in the series. |

Also, I've just finished reading the Oxford English Dictionary. The plot was hard to follow but at least they explained every word! Taxi!! |

Disappointing. I expected better, it's certainly nowhere near the best of the other things of his that I've read. Next up: Mr & Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy by Sharon Lathan I thought a complete change of pace would be good. I got this when it was a freebie. On the half chapter I've read so far I'm not sure it's worth more than that, but I'll give it a chapter or two to prove me wrong first. | |

Nearly halfway through Patrick Rothfuss's "The Name of the Wind". Not the greatest Fantasy novel written, but I'm really enjoying it0. See quite a few comparisons with the Harry Potter books, but any book with a young male protagonist learning magic will be compared. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Finished Dauntless by Jack Campbell. The first in The Lost Fleet series. The book frustrated me as it went along. I realize I don't care for the realistic time-lag process. Everyone has to wait minutes, hours or days for light to reach them to see what had happened or was said. And, of course, all information received is immediately outdated. A casual conversation takes hours between responses. Other than that the novel was OK. Grade it a C- [2 stars]. I won't read the others in the series. Next, by way of a GR friend recommendation, Instruments of Darkness by Imogen Robertson. Her debut novel a historical mystery taking place in 1780 Sussex. |

Next up: Shaking Hands with Lefkowitz by Melvin Foster. Wow — I bought this back in August 2005. It must be one of the longest serving titles in my TBR pile. The premise is interesting (if only as fantasy): an examination of a life after death. Unfortunately, I'm not certain I'm going to like the way it seems to be going.
