No, she said she had received a scanned copy of a book.... The book is not in the public domain yet, so QED = pirated.

In fact I am in a good spirit of talking. It is not so much about MR closing the thread but about not being sold the book by western companies. You probably have no idea how Eastern European countries get discriminated by Amazon. Amazon UK shipping regions doesn't even include Latvia among European countries which means that the whole range of items can't be ordered for no reason. The Amazon's purchase of The Bookdepository was a hard hit because it shipped everything to Latvia freely. |

I think I still have it in a box here somewhere. I agree it's really not all that good, especially so many years later. There are more recent books out there available for free legal download, but so far they all seem to be pretty technical. I haven't found anything written at a popular science level yet.

Good morning/evening people, I have seen other threads in this forum where people discuss djvu files. As I never heard of books being published in djvu format I thought that all these djvu files that people are talking about were scanned books. As no one cited any titles, they could all be books current on print. Amazon seems to have a strange policy. Many of the books that I would like to buy are not available for shipping to Romania. Even Kindle editions, which requires no "shipping". Even the free public domain books in Kindle edition that are free to download in UK and US are sold for 0.99 to Romania residents. @ kennyc: Thanks for the sugestion on the djvu reader. I used WinDjvuReader to open the file. But what I would like is to convert it so that I can read on the Kindle and be able to increase the font size so that I can read without glasses. I understand the book is very basic. But it's exactly what I need. It's not like I'm majoring in particle physics. I'm just doing a course on marketing and PR and was requested to write a paper on a subject that fascinates me. So it doesn't have to be highly technical. And this book is the only one that I could find on popular quantum physics (or Quantum Mechanics for Dummies as Diap put it :-) |

It's not a bad book at all, it was one of my favorites in high school.

And even if it was, let's remember that not so long ago it used to be illegal to teach a slave to read, or to assist the slave to escape. Indeed, it's still illegal for women to drive in some countries. Should these laws be followed?

As discussed on MR elsewhere, there are ways how to pretend that you are a US person when buying e-books from Amazon. Just in case you didn't know about this option.
