Apple’s latest App Store guidelines, which went into force today, now demand that no application offers an external link enabling users to subscribe to content outside of Apple’s ecosystem. Wow. Can't you just log in to NYtimes through the browser, as you would on any computer? Apple gets a cut for that? |

No, Apple only gets a cut of purchases made through the App.

oh. so this only applies when people access their paid NYT subscription via the NYT app. Or, order it through the app, as opposed to ordering it through the browser and then using the app to access it. either way, I lost interest halfway through typing that.

"... it seems the New York Times is happy to adobe by this rule, ..." So it only applies to PDFs? |

Why doesn't NYT just not have a app and do everything through the browser??? can someone explain me why the NYT even has an app now...given the steep 30% cut apple gets? Any technical reasons?
