I'm following the developments closely, I just haven't picked up a Touch of my own yet, so I don't have much to contribute. While the Touch sounds great, and I'm very tempted to grab one, I probably won't make a move until these advanced features are confirmed for all ePubs, workarounds notwithstanding.

I agree on renaming it first (or at least, renaming it BEFORE the Kobo processes the file). So copy the file to the Kobo and then rename it BEFORE you disconnect the USB cable.

This kepub format is going to be the downfall of the Kobo. Just drop it and make all the functions work with box standard ePub.

Dear JSWolf, Unfortunately the Adobe SDK doesn't have some of the functionality that you want. In particular changing the font face is a limitation imposed by the SDK. We are working on it so the doomsday rhetoric isn't quite necessary. |

dont take JsWolf too seriously he has been beating the same drum since the KO, what I dont understand is why he cares he apparently is quite happy with his sony?? althgouh I would like to see all the bells and whistles in regular epubs I understand both that it may not be that easy and it may not be that desirable from a Kobo company profitablility standpoint. FWIW I am very impressed with the KT by far the best kobo yet and easily a match for the other touch devices including the sony Thanks for a great product

I have checked the working of the kepub file, and I really can't see a lot of difference. Beside the encryption which must be different and a couple of addition to the toc.ncx file, I really don't see any substantial changes. There is a css and js (Javascript) folder with files for android (I guess from their name). There must be some small changes to the html file, but the files being encrypted I can't compare them. Why not release your kepub format specs and we could create our own files? I could add converter into my app. Not the best solution, but it might make some impatient people less "annoying". From what I can hear, I guess that kobo created their own engine to go around Adobe restrictions. Maybe that is why some function like dictionary and highlighting don't work with normal epub files, because they are not processed by the same engine. They just didn't implemented it yet. I can understand why adding functionally to an other vendor software might be a problem, things like font and etc. may be a problem, but for things like dictionary, which are not directly related I can't see why (not that I care). |

I'm guessing this isn't for the original? I tried it and it either doesn't work or I did it wrong.

I'm interested because I am thinking of maybe getting my mother-in-law a new reader for Christmas and I want to know what readers would be in the running.

You have been insulting and rude here on the Kobo board for over a year because you are thinking about maybe getting your mother-in-law a reader next Christmas? Buy her a Sony. Please.

If you have nothing but time on your hands search his other posts and you will see that there is rarely anything constructive, helpful, or postive that he has to say at least about the kobo. AND he doesnt even have a Kobo?? Last edited by baronrus; 06-22-2011 at 10:38 PM.

Well woo-hoo! x 100! Thanks, Kobo, for this simple font trick! I have added Charis SIL and Lido STF, both freely available text fonts with reg, ital, bold and bold ital in a package. I don't think it was mentioned here, but you do need to restart the Kobo Touch to make the fonts appear (or disappear). Just hold the power off button for a few extra seconds so its doesn't just "sleep". |

.kepub.epub seems to work well if this is named before kobo reader can process. Basic formatting (Margins, Paragraphs, indents...) follow the kobo style sheet and not the style sheet used by the same document with .epub (calibre formatted). No cover art. But dictionaries, full fonts etc. Not a bad deal.
