More support for the Amazon tablet rumor. I think the product looks interesting...but expensive. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-200...reaming-video/ |

what I'm taking out of all this is this is going to be a full feldged tablet, not a nook color clone. They may use the Kindle name, but from what it seems it would be more as expanding the kindle brand name beyond dedicated ebook readers IOW's The kindle ebook reader and now introducing the Kindle Tablet .

Also, $399 is nothing more than another me too tablet; and chances are, Amazon will lock it into their app store.

would be a bad move, I can see them locking in their ebook (kindle books) part of their ecosystem but not to have the actual Android market would not be wise. Would also be interesting to see if they block Google Movies and Netflix.

I think they'd be making a mistake to call it 'Kindle'. Especially if it includes tablet features like HDMI out etc. that Nook Color lacks. They aren't doing this primarily to position against NC, but to promote their video/music/ebook/app brands. The target is Apple. (it would be nice of them to include Netflix streaming - I use both services - Amazon provides some of Netflix's backend so they still make money either way) I don't understand how Android Market access works so I won't comment on whether Amazon would allow this or not, or whether that's up to Google, or if it involves some contract between the two. From my experience with my Pocket eDGe, it seems it is not so much a matter of lock in, but rather of lock out. I was able to easily add Amazon app store alongside the Entourage app store, but you have to hack to get Android Market. But perhaps someone can explain how it works. |

Guess what's missing from Amazon's appstore? Apps for Netflix and Nook. Why is that? Allowing access to the Android Market means allowing access to both apps.

One thing you have to remember is that you have to submit the apps to each available android market to have it listed. Just because it isn't listed in Amazon's, doesn't mean that Amazon rejected it.
