I think it's valid to say that the display does act differently depending on temperature. I had my Nook STR in my pocket for a while a few days ago, and when I pulled it out, it seemed to flash quite a bit on page turns until it cooled down a bit. The pages still looked fine though.

But it is true, IMHO, that your letters can become kind of ragged looking on some screens as you are reading. It seems to vary a lot, and is NOT very noticeable and kind of subtle. But I can see it for sure. I could see it on the store model too, not always on the same page I was seeing it on my device. It doesn't seem to have any relationship to the refresh scheme (every 6 pages, as I understand it), or at least it didn't seem that way to me. So, it seems that if you are an eagle eye like me, and are seeing some subtle - I stress subtle - differences in the smoothness and nice look of the lettering from page to page, that's just the way it works. IMHO.

No, it isn't. I have both a Kindle 3 and a Sony PRS-350, both of which have Pearl screens. No trace of ghosting on either of them. It is almost without a doubt the result of B&N's decision not to do a full screen refresh every page turn. Hopefully they'll come to their senses and make it a configuration item in a subsequent firmware update.

mine slightly ghosts goes away quick, its a feature because of the way they did the refresh, instead of refreshing everypage and getting the flash, they do it after every 6th page, where youll get the refresh flash. mines not that bad.

It would be interesting to see this "ragged letter" effect under magnification so we can better guess at what is happening. I've never noticed this on other Pearl screens, but that is not to say it isn't there as it could be too subtle to notice.

I only notice the letters are not as defined and clear when the screen has not refreshed and I have turned pages. It gets progressively worse until the screen refreshes completely. After the refresh, the letters look perfect. So I think this is part of the same problem of not refreshing every page turn.

Actually I did look with a magnifying glass. Indeed I could see a difference between say a "p" in one area of the screen vs one in another area (but I don't mean that the poor letters are always in the same area - it varies all over). Maybe I can take a closeup with my DSLR that can show it. Kind of hard, but at least eink photographs nicely, so maybe I can do it...

It really can't be that much of an issue then.

You should read all the posts to avoid taking one out of context. I mentioned in an earlier post that it would be good to look at the problem letters under magnification to better judge the issue. Hence his statement...
