Can someone please point me to the book hoarders anonymous forum? [/QUOTE] I think she meant one to help STOP hoarding, not ENABLE it. I got Casino Royale $2.99 by Ian Fleming, first in his James Bond series. These books are all normally $9.99. The Red Pavilion: A Judge Dee Mystery $1.99 by Robert van Gulik, part of a series " Judge Dee mysteries, the protagonist of which he borrowed from the 18th century Chinese detective novel Dee Goong An" per Wikipedia. Robert van Gulik Those Who Hunt The Night $.99 by Barbara Hambly. The review does mention formatting errors, but for that price I decided to take a chance. lol |

Good choice. Those Who Hunt the Night is one of Hambly's best books, and also one of the best gaslight vampire sleuth thrillers ever written. It won a 1989 Locus Award for Best Horror and something called a "Lord Ruthven" Award, which I gather is some vampire-specific horror nod. Having read my own e-copy already, the formatting errors are relatively minor (wordsquish rather than 7yp0-ridd1ed) but still moderately annoying and I'll be contacting Amazon with a list of them so they can get fixed. For sf/mystery lovers the sale has also got some Lawrence Block and Alan Dean Foster for $1.99 or less, classic David Gerrold and Richard Matheson award-winners for $2.99, and for regular science lovers, one of James Gleick's books for about $2.99.

Another good Gerrold deal (not part of the sale), is his short story collection Alternate Gerrolds: An Assortment of Fictitious Lives, which is only 99 cents at the moment. It's got a 1-star review by some idiot who was mad that Gerrold released this instead of finishing some other book he wanted, but don't let that put you off. It's full of classic sf stories by one of the top writers in the field. As for the sale itself, I'm also planning on sampling and maybe-getting Canadian writer Michelle Sagara West's fantasy Into the Dark Lands, which is 99 cents while her other titles from the same publisher are $9.99. If people like Arthurian fantasy with a mildly Christian tone (but not actual Christian fiction), there's some Stephen R. Lawhead going cheap. And for people who love British food writing, there's a Jane Grigson cookbook, Charcuterie and French Pork Cookery for $2.99. She's one of those classic cookery writers that a lot of other British food writers reference (like Elizabeth David), when they write their own books about being British and cooking/eating food. Plus it looks like there's a bunch of various University Press non-fiction in the history and science categories, which I'll be sampling. Although the library will generally have most of them, and academic books tend not to translate very well to Kindle format, given Mobi's display limitations.

I've gotten 3 so far seeing the pickins for Romances is slim. Most are books previously given away for free. Reclaiming Nick by Susan May Warren Legend of Michael by Lisa Renee Jones Love Drunk Cowboy by Carolyn Brown |

yeah, i saw lots of former free books as well. @AT: the short story collection does sound interesting! it's only 99 cents so i'm tempted to get it without looking at the sample Last edited by wyndslash; 06-04-2011 at 12:09 AM. |
