I voted for The Scavenger's daughter. Seems a bit behind in the poll but these are early days..

Other nominations sound similar to what I have already read or have actually read.

But it is #3 in a series and chances are very good you won't enjoy it as much without reading #1 & #2.

I did mention that in the nomination thread and yet it was still nominated. I hope it doesn't win. No way I'll read the first two just to read the third.

There's a big difference between a second book in a trilogy vs a second book in a series. To me, the latter just means they are related and have the same characters and locations... sort of like Star Trek... you can pick up pretty much any one of them, they are all stand alone books.

So, when you say "series" do you mean this is part of a single story or just same settings and characters?

The Spy Who Came in from the Cold is perfectly fine as a stand-alone work. IMO, it's the most (only) readable Le Carré. But it's still pretty dated.

I read The Spy Who Came In from the Cold many years ago, and thought it was very boring. I couldn't understand why it was so popular! Oh well, different strokes for different folks, and all that!

I agree. Don't like le Carré in print, and hated the TV series even more. But then I generally don't like cold war fiction anyway.

I enjoyed Heat Wave, both as a stand alone story and for its connection with the TV show.
