Jobs has done almost nothing as far as we can tell, although he isn't nearly as wealthy as Gates. And Gates has done most of his charitable work since his retirement. |

I have to agree with CommonReader. Apple are terrible control freaks and this sort of behaviour doesn't come as a surprise. I have been tempted by the iPad but have been avoiding it precisely because I worry about this sort of thing. Now I'm certainly not buying one and have just used the link in the OP to explain this to Apple themselves.

You can go on being worried, and go buy a different type of tablet. But for all the worrying, for all the naysayers -- Apple has BY FAR the most content available for their customers, and in the best and easiest to use format. Lee |

But developers, those who produce all that content, that do business, that make money that feeds their sons and daughters off of that content...have absolutely no qualms about doing business with Apple. Interesting juxtaposition. ![]() From someone who knows: Quote:

I just find the PARTICULAR idea of "being worried about choosing iOS due to lack of content" unwarranted. Apple EXCELS more than anybody at getting their platform plenty of content. Apple does a lot of thinks I don't like. But they also do soo much that I do like, do it well, better than anybody else. If you want to know there is going to be books, movies, tv shows, music applenty for your device -- then bet on Apple. Lee |

It's not the quantity of content that has people concerned. I think it's the idea that Apple can at any time remove content, refuse content, and change the rules for anti-competitive reasons. They've shown that they're willing to do this as it suits them, and a lot of people just don't like that.

And a similar thing can be said about Amazon. A lot of people don't like the fact that Amazon chooses not to sell one book or another, but the regular customers don't really have a problem with that. |
