The question just on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (Australia). The first person passed, the second person (who can't pass) guessed "snake". Looks like ereaders haven't made the mainstream here just yet.

Hey kiwipippa, I've actually just come back from the summer season, but I'm heading back next summer so I'll leave it in my profile for now. After a month without internet access (on the ship - we have internet down south!) I am now trying to catch up with emails and updating my blogs!

That's alright, because European capitals haven't gone mainstream in the US yet

Other than the name of the popular book reader that we are all familiar with a Kindle is also a verb meaning to light a candle.

So an "Amazon Kindle" could either be a rainforest on fire or an ereading device.

Kellie Pickler is a former American Idol contestant and minor C&W artist. She overcame a horrible and abusive childhood, and is big into charity work. Gotta give her credit for that.

I taught Introduction to American Government at three different Colleges. 50% of my students thought that there were 52 states in the US and that Canada and Mexico were the last two states to join the US.

I would have a mock United Nations session in my Introduction to International Relations class and would assign students to specific countries. One semester I had two hundred plus students so I assigned three students to each country. The three students who were assigned to Great Britain told me that Germany bordered Great Britain. Then they argued with me when I returned their paper and they had been marked down. I pulled out a map and they still argued with me.

It is really, really sad what students don't know.

And most thought that Africa was one country and did not get the difference between a continent and a country.

I drank heavily after grading.
