I don't have quotes when I try to place it in the plugin tweaks. I just placed the quotes to indicate what I tried.

It was worth a shot. So you restart calibre and it gave you that error? If you haven't already I would remove it, restart calibre then try again.

Hopefully someone with more insight will be along to help out.

The answer from my previous emails with Kovid on this is that Calibre now does a lookup to find the earliest publication date using the XISBN service, as part of the merging of results. This lookup is independent of the publication date values you see being displayed in the log. It does mean that the value you got from Goodreads for instance in this case is ignored and the date from XISBN is used instead.

Normally it isn't a problem as you would hope they all have the same result but sometimes I have found that you do get some weird results back from XISBN unfortunately. There is no way to turn off this behaviour AFAIK.

It does raise the question as to whether there is any point to the plugins retrieving a published date if it is being ignored. The one circumstance I can think where the pugin's publication date would get used is if the book has no ISBN but that would be relatively rare.

when I clicked plugin tweaks, I got a window with some mysterious text in it. I pasted test_eight... right under it, closed my eyes and hit 'enter'. Restarted, and it's working!

If the plugins published date is earlier than that returned by xISBN it will be used, or if the result has no isbn/xisbn has no data for it.

I've tried several times and just get the same error. My operating system is windows vista 64-bit.

@beckywc: This weeks release will be calibre 0.8.0, so I suggest you just wait a few days

I'm not sure whether this is the right place to raise this issue; please excuse me if it's not!

When you install updates of many other programs they "remember" where you installed the original version (not on the default C drive in my case) and whether you want a Start Menu shortcut, a desktop shorcut and so on. Would it be possible for calibre to do the same instead of making me select the various options every time I upgrade to a new version? Thanks.

Kovid, when are you gong to break down and admit you have a quality, stable product and call it 1.0.0? The rest of us have known it for some time now....

Never! Seriously though probably it will just happen naturally after 0.9. So in a year or two

I was under the impression we would go to 0.10 after 0.9...
