Yeah, but I don't pull my Kindle out of its case and cycle through the screensavers. There's just no thrill in it. I also don't stare at my home page for hours on end because the TOC is too good of a read to put down. No distraction for me. Besides, I'm getting a KSO specifically to get the deals being offered. I'd be a fool to turn down a free Kindle. |

I just thought of this. Has anyone ever considered that the ads may be better than dead authors staring you in the face while it's in "sleep mode"? The Visa ad that they have on the web-site looks a lot cooler than having dead authors in my opinion hahaha. |

It is interesting how most people are in agreement that the price cut is not worth dealing with advertisements. But I do know many who are more upset about the idea that those who accept the adverkindle will get deductions on gift cards and ebook/audio deals. A bit unfair for loyal members who already own a kindle. What do you think? |

Basically, I see the target for this product to be those for whom the $25 difference is a make or break issue for them in regards to getting a Kindle. I don't see that as a particularly large group. | |

I also think this is a delay tactic. They know that magic number is $99 and that once they drop to under a hundred dollars they will be swarmed with orders but they want to keep the price point as high as they can for as long as they can. With the number of alternatives out there that day is soon approaching.

For me, the $25 lower price tag is irrelevant. I'd pay full price to get an ad-supported model, because the initial offers will save me $140 on products I was already going to buy. That alone makes even a full priced Kindle free.

I need the 3G version, so I wouldn't choose the discounted wifi-only Kindle for that reason alone. I rarely look at the screensaver pictures, so if the ads were displayed only there it would be tolerable. But ads on the Home screen would annoy me, even if I was saving money. No thanks. I'd rather pay a bit extra for an ad-free Kindle. I know that some people are not as sensitive to advertising as I am, though. If a discounted device will bring more people back to reading, I think that's great! I find that I'm reading a lot more since I purchased my Kindle. I think it's nice that Amazon's giving us choices. |

I'm sick of ads everywhere. That's all I can say. "Spend, spend, spend", I'm sick of it.

There you go, a classic example of unobtrusive advertising. Did you notice the signature, too? I'm guessing that Amazon will be updating the screensaver ads whenever you update firmware. I wonder if there will be firmware updates that contain only new ads or if they will only update ads when they actually make firmware changes. It's hard to imagine they'd notify people of a "new ads only" firmware update unless the ads are so awful that people will want to update to new ones just to get rid of the old ones (maybe like some people hate the screensaver pictures of dead authors). |
