As you've heard, there's a new Kindle coming out that is cheaper and also offers money-saving ads. But, it still has ads on the front page. Would you buy one? Info: Amazon.com: Kindle Special Discount--$114 PLUS Special Offers! Lower Price When you buy Kindle with Special Offers, you are getting the same bestselling Kindle for $25 less—only $114. Special offers and sponsored screensavers display on the Kindle screensaver and on the bottom of the home screen—they don't interrupt reading. Special Offers You'll receive special offers directly on your Kindle. Examples include: $10 for $20 Amazon.com Gift Card $6 for 6 Audible Books (normally $68) $1 for an album in the Amazon MP3 Store (choose from over 1 million albums) $10 for $30 of products in the Amazon Denim Shop or Amazon Swim Shop Sponsored Screensavers Our goal is to display sponsored screensavers that you want to see. That's why we've created a free Kindle app and website (coming soon) called AdMash. Anyone who's interested can download AdMash and help pick future screensavers. Two prospective screensavers show up side-by-side, and you pick the one you find most attractive. The ones preferred most by customers qualify to become sponsored screensavers. You can also set your personal Kindle Screensaver Preferences to give us hints on the style and types of sponsored screensavers you'd like to see on your Kindle. For example, you can indicate that you'd like to see more or fewer screensavers that include elements such as landscapes and scenery, architecture, travel images, photography, and illustrations. Together, AdMash voting and Kindle Screensaver Preferences help us select the most attractive and engaging sponsored screensavers to display on your Kindle. |

If the ads were for good deals they wouldn't bother me. But I think the $25 discount on the Kindle is paltry, not enough to entice me.

No. I mean, it's a good idea to do something like this. But, for a difference of $25...not worth it.

What about "Maybe, but only if the discount was for the 3G model and there was an option to upgrade to the ad-free version"?

You can tell your employers at Amazon that I would not think that that little discount would be sufficient to cover the inconvenience of an adspace on my reader. Remember the free internet? The one with the scrolling ads. No? I thought not, because nobody wanted it. |

I hate ads so much. And having them on a device that's supposed to be mine? No thank you. Although, I bet somebody can easily disable them with a hack. Also, that's about the closest thing Amazon has ever come (and who knows, probably ever will come) close to custom screensavers. |

I do not want to see ads on my Kindle. I love my Kindle, but seeing ads on it would drive me crazy. I suppose they would be targeted to me too, by my books purchased or the other things I buy from Amazon. I would have to buy a Sony reader, but then they would start using ads, so I would go back to paper books. They I suppose publishers would start printing ad pages in books! I hate looking at ads! I won't buy t-shirts with product names or logos! Help me, I'm going over the edge.....

And web sites find things that I want |

Nope. My dignity is worth more than $25. I just can't get over how little the discount is. That's not even 20% off. |

I'd be more interested if they dropped the price below the $99 point. I think they'd greatly improve their sales as well, but maybe they want to hold onto a slightly higher price as long as possible.

I can't believe there's actually that many people who would put up with ads to save so little money. WE |

a little makes a lot, and as i've read so far, seems that the ads pop up on the screensaver page and homescreen. well, i already bought my kindle anyway, and with exchange rates being as they are, the discount is even cheaper when converted here :P i agree with the person who said that amazon is first price skimming, though. the offer would definitely be more attractive if it were $99
