iPad 2 becomes Kindle for only $8

a paperback would swat a wasp, not too sure about the fragile reader though.

The iPad 2 has nothing, literally nothing on the Kindle. How much did you have to pay for that iPad 2?

Literally? Well, let's see. I paid about $100 more for the iPad 2 than folks paid for the Kindle 1. Oh sure, after the iPad came out, Amazon quickly dropped the price of the Kindle...but it was originally $400 or so for the 6" kindle and it was $490 for the 10" Kindle when the iPad was released.

What does one get for that additional $10? Well, literally, every book that can be read on a kindle can be read on an iPad via the free kindle app. Can be read in the dark, and can be read in color. No delay or flicker when changing the page.

Literally -- you can also read every book available for the Nook via the free Nook app. Every book available from Borders/Kobo via their free app.

I know -- one can't read outside in full sunlight which is something I need to do once in a blue moon, which I do via buying the $8 "make your iPad a kindle" option called a "paperback book".

I can also do the following which can't be done on a kindle:
watch tv shows and movies via netflix and hulu
play thousands upon thousands of games
do light office work (word processor, spread sheet, notes)
a very nice internet experience
thousands upon thousands of apps

All in full color.

BTW, it's been overcast in Daytona this week, been reading my iPad outside by the ocean!

No need for color if you're reading a book.

LCD screen hurts your eyes.

Can't read outside if it's even a little sunny.

Battery life is about 10 hours.

Much, much more expensive.

Heavy.

You know what I noticed about living in S. FL? The sun is too strong and bright to just sit in it. If I'm in it, I'm in the ocean or a pool. If I'm on the sand or in my backyard, I'm in the shade. It's not easy to read in direct bright sunlight even if it's a paper book. It's just too strong. Heck, I keep sunglasses next to the front door so when I go get the mail I can put them on first.
