Thanks for the Beta update. I had to register on these forums just so I could come here and let you know how off the hook it is. Honestly, I'm new to ebook readers, having just gotten mine last week, and this simple tool absolutely addressed my top 2 questions/wishes for the reader, which is to (1) customize and keep visible my 'currently reading' books on the Home screen and (2) figure out an easy way to make books I looked at but didn't actually read say NEW again. So far, I've used the latest Beta twice, and have not experienced any problems. This tool is simply great, especially with the new features. Thank you! |

Hi Baily, welcome to the forum! It's always better to register, you can see what's new more easily and subscribe to threads. Thank you for testing, I'm glad it worked fine for you. Good luck with your new reader. |

I just tried it and it kept the author names with a few weird exceptions. I had tried at one point to use a plugboard in calibre to use author sort instead of using the Sony plugin, and for those it still switches, but it switches to the literal author_sort! I noticed this before your latest update which is why I don't use a plugboard anymore. I also removed all those pesky "new" tags. I use collections to separate read from unread so I don't need them. Thanks! I may have forgotten to check the update metadata box when I saw author_sort appear as the author name, so disregard that comment. I can't check that out now because all those that used the plugboard also did were not in the correct folder so I added them again. Last edited by Purple Lady; 02-16-2011 at 06:45 PM. |

Thanks for testing Purple Lady! Does your author name ends with an asterisk when you use the 'update metadata' option? Even if it is the literal "author_sort". |

Thanks for this little utility! Very useful! I usually go between 3 books (one novel, one non-fiction and one short story collection) at a time so this is perfect!

I thought I had posted here, but praps it's floating around in the ether somewhere...! Is it possible to rearrange the books on the PRS650 in alphabetical author order ? ( Fairly easily, for a very non-tech person, sorry..) |

You can change the order by touching the text in the upper right corner, in the "Books" screen. In the picture above that would be "by Author". I'm sure you can find more about it in the User Guide. | |

I thought carpetmojo meant sorting titles by books in alpha order under each author's name? Maybe I read too much into his post though because it's something I'm always trying to do. When you sort by author, all the titles are a jumbled mess within the author's name, rather than being in alpha order. I'd really love to know if there's a way to manage that, possibly with Calibre? short of changing the date of each and every book that you transfer to the reader that is, even with this tool that's just too time consuming. |

You can use the 'Browse Folders' feature from PRS+. You can have a folder for each author, and choose how to sort the books inside it (by file name, by author then title). PRS+ is not ready for the general public yet for x50, but you can install an alpha version if you have a custom firmware like Boroda's. You can find mode details here. Just jump to the last pages (~100). |

Calibre is the real answer. You can sort books in pretty much any order in any collections you may desire.

That's pretty much how I've been doing it with Calibre. For tags I use only the author name, so on the reader I have a collection for each author and then sort by title within the author collections works fine. But it just seems the reader should have a way to sort logically by author, and then by title under each author name, and not the hodge-podge mess that is the current sort. |

OMG. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this handy little app -- and also making it available for Mac users as well. The book ordering was driving me batty! I've got the app running fine on my newish MacBook Pro (2010 model) but can't seem to get it to run on my Gen 1 Intel iMac (ca 2006) which is also running OS X 10.6.6. I get an error message that the App is not supported on this type of Mac. I'm content to keep running on my MBP but just wondering would the Mac model matter so long as I'm running the latest OS? |

The Mac version was really just an experiment. I'm not a Mac user, I just borrowed one to create this application. I'm afraid I don't know what's causing your problem, and I only have access to a 2010 MacBook Pro. Also, I don't think I will add the features from the new 0.4 Windows version, there's too much work involved. |

Goaspy, thank you anyway. Like I said before -- I'm content to use what you've already developed for Mac on my MBP.
