I'm currently undertaking a semi-pro full-cast production of one of my own books, inspired by what Bruce has done. | |

I've been a professional oral tradition storyteller for many years. I've performed before audiences from as large as 5 to 500. Mind you, I only hit that 500 mark twice, so far. I'd be hard-pressed to imagine how a device could serve as an adequate replacement for an actual live performance. There are so many little nuances that go into the telling of the oral tradition story that could not be replicated by technology. I have even been fortunate enough to see myself storytelling on several local television channels and sadly I feel that it isn't half as powerful as a live presentation. Still, the future is evolving - constantly! |

I don't think I understand the idea. Geocoded? Does that mean I can only read the story if I was at the location where the story takes place?

It's the idea that as you move through the location the appropriate parts play when you are in their location. Think of it like you go to a Museum and as you walk up to an exhibit the audio for that exhibit starts playing when you leave it stops.

Yup, that's me. Although I haven't hung with SF Canada for a bit. I changed my e-mail address and website a few months ago and couldn't get back into the loop. I keep forgetting to get hooked back up with them. How are you doing, Michael? |

The game aspect of the geolocating thing... have y'all seen some of the machinima videos? Like Red vs Blue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_vs._Blue)?

Machinima is pretty amazing -doesn't really factor into geolocating though I don't think? But I'm certainly not on top of that. Thanks for everyone's comments. I'll hit the drawing board and post some ideas when I've got them in a semblance of order? If I do this maybe some of you iPhone users can beta it? TTFN |

Okay, so I don't know if anyone will see this thread but I wanted to say that I've done A LOT of thinking on this and now have created my own app for the iPhone called Insyde Story. It's not out yet (November 30th) but I have a demo I can share. http://www.youtube.com/user/InsydeStory It'll also have a web component www.insydestory.com and should allow people to create location based stories that consist of video, audio, text, soundtracks, and images. Since you guys are the experts I'd love to get some feedback on how to make it better! |
