Most threads stay more or less on topic and with 100 000 + members you can't really expect a popular topic to have less than an 100 responses - its 0,1 % after all. IF it's one post per person.

The threads that go wild are in the wild part of the forum, so you can't really complain about them.

when I was new I would read the long threads for awhile, write down the page number I stopped at, do something else and come back to them. for the threads I was really interested in it was a lot of fun getting a weird kind of history of the place and picking up on the different and interesting characters

"Reactionary" because the mods won't lock any thread more than a week old?

"Aggressive" because you propose shutting off access to discussions we are participating in because you find them boring?

There are solutions to your problems. You choose not to use them. Your choice. But that does not compel anyone to produce an alternative solution that you like more.
