Yeah, sadly my one and only local Kohl's was completely out of stock as well when I checked yesterday.

The open platform that pandigital offers on their site moves the unit into being an android 2.1 tablet and works well from my view. The draw back is that you do not have app market but everything I wanted is available as .apk files and downloadable.

I have Kindle and Nook software as well as other readers so it is quite versatile in my mind.

I had purchased one before Christmas but picked up a second for backup on parts. Probably regret that in a year when I want something new and still have a working pandigital :-)

I called the Kohl's closest to me today, and they were out of stock, but the guy I talked to said that about 3 days ago the next closest one had 18. I was really excited until I called them and they said that they'd all been recalled just in the last day or two, so none of the stores in the region have them anymore!

I don't know. I only know they had some. The ereader floor display was bare (in the middle of Xmas clearance), but a knowledgable sales guy said the 7" PDNs were in the stockroom and the 6" ones had been recalled. Obviously there's no rhyme or reason to it.

If I had had my wits about me, I would have had the salesperson retrieve two or three. I know at least two people who'd like one. On the other hand, their being off the floor might have been the reason they still had them, so at least I snagged one. I'm going to check back, but I can't get there until late afternoon.

The local Kohl's here had 14 on the shelf on Wednesday. I bought 2 (one for me, another for my brother back East -- none of the Kohl's in that area of NY had any). I told all of my gadget friends about the deal, at least one picked them one up. As of late last night there were still 8 on the shelf.

Part of why they may still be there is because the clerks don't know about it and think that it is in their "electronics" area... so they tell people that they don't have any more. But the ereaders are actually located with the picture frames (and digital picture frames).

My friend called me from the middle of Kohl's asking me if I was sure they had them (because the salesperson didn't know anything about it)... so I had to talk him through the aisles to find it.

I missed out when Kohls had the Aluratek Libre was clearanced down to 39.99 with a 30% coupon before Thanksgiving.

After the Dec 26 clearance, I scanned one to see how much it would be marked down but it was $199 full price. It's accessories were 70% off.

I just called the Kohl's in Waco Texas and she told me that they were recalled, not because of anything wrong with them, they just weren't going to sell them anymore.

Ok...but how are they going to liquidate them?

I want one, and I'm going hunting for them tonight. If I can't find it in the store, I'll be looking online.

Right now all they have is the Sharper Image Literati.

I was wondering what they were planning to do with them also. Sending them back to the manufacter, I assume, since they couldn't warehouse electronics for next year as they will be out dated.

Since Kohl's doesn't have them online, the cheapest I have seen is Amazon for $99.

Don't bother with the Literati - not a good reader IMHO. I returned the one I bought last year the next day.

Man! I missed out on the Pandigital, but got the Literati instead for $69. I've read that its much better now that they've made some updates.
