Using the Nook Color for recipes?

I'm seriously considering getting an NC, but in addition to reading a lot, I also cook a lot. As a result, I have several hundred recipies in .html .doc format. I know the NC will read them and think that the screen size would make it an ideal e-cookbook. However, I've heard some comments about not being able to use folders in the (unrooted) NC file structure. Does that only apply to epubs or to all files?

Could I (for example) navigate to specific recipes using a folder structure like the following:

Document
-Recipes
--Chinese Food
--Indian Food
--Italian Food
--Thai Food

Or would they all be in the Documents folder, w/o any organization?

Sorry I can't answer your specific question about viewing docs in an unrooted NC..

I just wanted to comment on the idea of using it for recipies... It's a very practical idea indeed and I have several recipies in pdf format that would do just nicely... BUT.. I tend to get a little messy in the kitchen especially when trying to follow a recipe while cooking at the same time (the stove doesn't wait for while you try to read the steps). I'd be wary of getting the NC dirty or even wet! So as long there's a good spot to put the NC where it won't get in the way, this would be another good use for it!

Mine is wrapped under the tree so I can't double check now but I made folders with epub books. The folder structure showed under 'My File' I think. If you're still interested after Christmas (i.e. haven't gotten a better answer from someone else), send me a PM & I'll recheck it.

I am doing a slightly "higher tech" solution with the Nook for recipes: I have installed the "OpenEats" web recipe management system on one of my computers at home, and I use the Nook's web browser to browse and view recipes.

For those who haven't heard of it, go to http://www.openeats.org for more information about this free application.

I think I might install one of these in the kitchen, but then I'm going to need to get my wife a NC too!

Seriously, I cook a lot when I am home. I would not think of mounting my NC or any other tablet in the kitchen so I can use recipes from it.

Whenever I cook from a recipe, I print it out and read it three or four times. The last time, I go through my kitchen checking off the ingredients I have on hand and putting a dash next to the ones I have to purchase.

I may also jot down some possible ingredient substitutions or make silly comments in the margins.

And I take the printed recipe to the store with me.

When I cook, I am all over the recipe and stuff get's splashed on it. Good.

Finally, after the meal, my wife and I will note the bottle of wine we had with it and rate the recipe on our 5 star scale.

Our refrigerator has our top 5 recipes in the original paper forms with all our scribbles, splashes and messiness on them.

No, we would never trade that ritual for a tablet.

Anybody know the best Android recipe app? I have a PDN that's hacked and would love to use it for recipes also. Thanks.

I've seen the name Epicurious referenced several times. I've downloaded it, but haven't opened it yet.

Yep...it does a pretty good job once hacked...now if I could just find the comic book reader that is best I'd be in great shape (I don't ready comic books but children's books but it's the same idea)
