				Attention New York state residents!

Did you know that any NY state resident can have a New York Public Library card????

I didn't, and just found out recently. You can apply online, and although this page says you will have to go to a library branch with ID to activate your card, mine came already activated! NYPL has thousands of ebooks available - way more than my local library system, so I was thrilled to find out about this! You can apply here: http://www.nypl.org/help/library-card |

I had this card about a year ago.. but then they changed the rules. They wanted me to physically go to a branch to activate.

You might have gotten a temporary card... |

Really?! I actually don't live in NY anymore, but I use my dads address for many things. Maybe I will get one and go in to activate it the next time I am down there. So can I go to any NY State library to show ID? Shoot, I just realized I don't have NY ID anymore...

I just checked and I can use my birth certificate and passport.

The library card will work for about 3 months - then you have to go in person to a library in Manhattan or the Bronx and show ID.

When I got my card it worked online even though they said I needed to get it activated. I guess they give you 3 months to do so. |

I can live with that - I'm sure I'll go down to the city in the spring...

I was just down there in November - wish I'd known about getting a card then! |

Am I right in believing that the Brooklyn Public Library system is separate from the NYPL?
