Some news issues

Hey, I've been setting up calibre to download some daily newspapers and I've come across a couple of issues In the content server, on the "mobile" page it only lists the month and year for the date so all of a month's newspapers look the same. I tried to edit it manually but it appears that the python that generates the page is compiled. I have a kindle 2. I'd like to be able to leave it on USB overnght and have calibre auto-sync incoming news straight to the kindle but there doesn't seem to be an option for this. Amazon charge me 99c per meg if I email it to myself over whispernet. Any thoughts or ideas? |

I assume that the date format on the web page isn't user editable anywhere then? As an aside, where does calibre store its last page read information? Are there any devices that this is synced to/from?

As a comment to your original problem: I've read several cases of users implementing the automated sending of news via email through whatever scripting and scheduling facilities their OSes provide. If you want to take that approach, the forum search should yield several threads.

No, it isn't, unless you're willing to run calibre from source.

calibre content server - day of month on mobile page

Well, when you put it like that it's embarrassing that I asked! If anybody else wants the same then download the attachment and unzip the file to Lib\site-packages\calibre\library\server in whatever directory you installed calibre to. It should then take preference to the pre-existing pyo file. Original source was from 0.7.27. You may have to manually delete it if it causes problems with a later release (?). I'm new to open source so if this isn't okay then I'll delete it. |

posting code is fine, in fact since you took the trouble of tracking down the fix (something I was insufficiently motivated to do), I'll even include it in the next calibre release. But I would discourage people from putting the .py file into the calibre installation directory. The reason is that has the potential of breaking upgrades, since an upgrade wont touch that file and it will take precedence over the .pyo file from the upgrade. |
