Cause high tech is more fun. After all, we spent thousands of dollars developing a pen that could write in outer space when the Soviets simply used a pencil. OK so this only applies to Americans and their love of overpriced solutions to simple problems. |

Because it's more fun? Why on earth would a geek who owns a Kindle want to put scotch tape and a note on their Kindle when they can put a high tech label on it? In color? Come on, this is the 2000's or whatever. Lordblacknail |

Because pieces of paper (and labels) taped to the back can easily be removed (by a thief) or fall off over time.

30 minutes of looking online, most people with a brain can figure out how to: 1) reset the thing to factory defaults 2) remove screensaver hacks with a little more work, you can register a blacklisted one to work offline or w/e too from what I've read so.. Why worry about it. Just don't lose it, like with anything else in life.

Replace old locks with new ones that are professional grade//hardened steel, or at least get ones that deter use of bump keys. Install heavy grade strike plates with 3 inch screws and deadbolts on all entryways in compliance with ANSI 1 spec. My 2c. Last edited by curstpriest; 11-06-2010 at 11:14 AM.

I tried not losing my kindle, and, sadly, was unsuccessful. I didn't realize I'd lost it until I saw a couple of charges for purchases I did not make. I'd really like to destroy the kindle remotely - have it catch fire or cause a small shock - for the guy who decided not to return it to the stewardess, but to order word games. Perhaps that feature will be in the next edition. I have de-registered the lost kindle, and am most worried about this kindle thief seeing my personal information. Does it come off once deregistered? I am impressed anyone found a number for amazon - can you share that? |

I've found gethuman.com rather useful when I need to call a company about a problem.

It's frightening that Amazon can just "deactivate" a particular kindle like that and it's also frightening that it's possible to cause charges being made to the original owner's credit card just by using his device.
