iPad iOS 4.2 kills the orientation lock switch - Page 2

I preferred the old-way of using the slider to lock the orientation. I used that much more than mute. Besides, holding down the volume down button mutes the iPad....so as of 4.2, there are two methods to mute the iPad via button controls, but to lock the orientation we need to double-tap the home button, slide our finger across the screen and then tap the on-screen button. It was better for me the other way.

Ios 4.2. I've been out of the country lately. Is ios 4 already out there? I'm still on 3.2.2

Thanks for the info. I really love mine and don't need to upgrade, but we don't have a choice. Aside from never synching again.

I thought you could sync without upgrading. I was gonna hold out for a bit.

I'm actually looking forward to having program groups on it. Not as fussed about the multi tasking, although there's been times when it would have been useful. But I will miss the hardware lock for orientation

I will hold out also, if possible. I log into iTunes so seldom that I am not particularly proficient. I log In every couple of weeks to months. In between, I forget how to use it.

I doubt you'll be required to upgrade. Most upgrades are optional. I'm guessing a pop-up box will let you know that an upgrade is available and ask if you want to download it. Just don't download it and sync as normal.

That said, I'm looking forward to some of the multi-tasking features of 4.2, and the printing features (although I'm unclear as to whether or not you'll need a special printer for that to work). I don't see holding off on updating just to keep the orientation switch.

Although I might let some other people upgrade first, just to make sure it goes okay.

I think, but can't check right now as I'm at work, that when you have the iPad connected you can set how you want to upgrade (or it might be check for upgrades) in iTunes - manually or automatically.

Exactly! Wait 2 weeks for ios 4.1, after all of the bugs are worked out.

I'm gonna wait, too. I generally do that, partly because I'm lazy, partly because I'm tech inept, so I prefer that others try first.

I forget how to use parts of iTunes, too. (Thumps self on head.)

a) I really want multitasking for skype >_>

b) the wireless printing is only for wifi printers like the new HP models, oldies are out

c) The update will always bug you *ping* "There is an updata available" >_>

But I think I'll update anyways =/. In reality the groups/folders don't really fascinate me, as I have few apps and already grouped in different screens. Now if they would add a feature for downloading things from the internet in Safari that would be a "magicaler" internet experience.

PS.: I have discovered that the only thing that flash is useful to me is... publicity... so not useful at all XD (<-- don't play flash games on the web)
