DRM Book does not display on Sony reader

I have added my first DRM'd book to Adobe Digital Editions and I have authorized my computer with my Adobe ID. The book displays correctly in ADE so it looks like the DRM is working properly. I then added the book to calibre, edited the metadata to set the Sony collection and used "Send to Device". When I open the book on the reader all I get is "Protected Page". Have I missed a step somewhere? Do I need to authorize calibre with my Adobe ID? |

You must authorize the reader with ADE. This needs be done only once. If I remember correctly, you start ADE (with calibre not running), plug in the reader, and go through the authorization steps. Note that authorizing your reader will consume another of your 6 allowed reading devices. Woe unto those who have multiple computers and multiple readers. |

ADE does not offer to authorize my reader, whether I plug the reader in before or after opening ADE and with calibre not running.

According to Adobe, "Connect the Sony® Reader to your computer and launch Digital Editions. Digital Editions automatically detects the presence of your Sony® Reader and offers to authorize it with your Adobe ID." (http://www.adobe.com/products/digita...lp/#activation) They also say "It is expected that ADE will not recoginize Sony Readers on Mac, use EBL instead for transfering content." (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2208717) From this, may I conclude that you are running on a Mac? |

I'm running a Windows 7 PC and have also read the help on Adobe's site. I don't suppose I have to re-install the horrible Sony library software to get the device authorized?

I can't tell you with certainty, although it should work. When I plug in my 300 on Win7 Pro, ADE immediately offers to activate my reader. I am running ADE 1.7.2.1131. Note that I refuse to permit activation and have never activated my reader via Sony. Getting rid of DRM is easy, so I won't buy into the insane infrastructure. |

Thanks for the help. I downloaded ADE yesterday so it must be up to date. I'll try with Sony's software re-installed but I do feel a bit annoyed that reading books which you've paid for is so awkward. I don't really want ADE or the Sony software on my PC; I just want to pay my money and be able to read and reformat my book. I may have a look at DRM circumvention as I can then use calibre to reformat the book to my liking.

Good. Glad you made progress. My guess is that you can uninstall the sony SW, but I have no direct experience with doing so after authorization. |
