Hi, I'm new to a kindle 3, my question is - so in case of 800 collections (per author) the first should start with # and the last with ########## (800x times) to have proper sorting from A till Z ?

That would look pretty horrible. There is a hierarchy in the symbols, so . Sorts before < for instance. Instead of using lots of the same symbol, use different symbols and use less of them.

If you put # in front of every collection, they will sort alphabetically.

Is it possible to make something like a sub-folder? A sub-collection so to speak?

Collections as I understand are not physical folders on the Kindle but are basically like tags or labels which are applied to your books. The bonus is that you can have one book in multiple collections whereas if you were really using a folder system, that book would have to have more than one physical copy to belong in more than one folder.

(actually a use tool on pc to rename all 400 folders to start with # and using kindle collection manager I created collection with # - So I hope I do not have to rename it manually directly in kindle) Edit - sorry my fault -I had it sorted by collection. If I sort it by title, it is showing all 5000 books, but on first pages there are these 400 collections, sorted alphabetically. Superb - thank you for help. So I would advise everyone to think about organising in a collection before even loading a single book on the Kindle.

Or to have some file manager tool in kindle. So we can have collection of books outside the folder documents, and only use file manager to pick up one book and copy it to folder documents... |

I start all of my collections with a zero (0) and when I sort by title, all of my collections show up in alphabetical order. I tried using all the different symbols but found it confusing and it really didn't order the collections they way I want. Now, everything sorts perfectly. Good Luck!

Does anyone else find that when you have to restart your Kindle (for instance, after a software upgrade) that some of the collections lose their sort order? In my case, I'm sorting by title, but my collections have the following symbols preceding them to keep them at the top: @, ##, #, + (used in that order). All is fine, until I have to reboot for any reason. In which case the collections starting with the + symbol are still at the top, but all the others are sorted down with the book titles. Leading to a time-consuming 5-10 minutes of renaming the @, ##, and # collections to get them back to the top. Has this happened to anyone else? And, if not, which symbols (and in what order) are you using that allow you to escape this annoyance? Thanks in advance for your responses. --xari. |

Do you have a space after the symbol, but before the first letter. Once I fixed that problem, it solved my loss of sorting after resets. cheers |
