Hi all,
I have been reading ebooks on my sony clié NX70 for years (and still reading many 'normal' books also

). But my handled is less and less willing to cooperate (problems with the battery, etc.), so I'm looking forward to buy a 'real' ebook reader. So I'm going to read a lot of your posts just now, to learn about all the possibilities this hardware can bring

Maybe I can start with a small question here (if it's not against the forum rules to post a question in this subforum ?) ?
I wonder if there is any e-ink device with at least a small backlightning ?
I find very interesting to be able to read, let's say in the bus during night with my nx70...

Hi and welcome FixB!

There is no way of backlighting eink, it is in its nature quite opaque. It must be lighted from the front, just like a paper book.

The majority of devices discussed throughout MR are about eink. Ereading is getting more and more popular, we are the proof, and eink will help exponentially multiply our numbers.

The French forum is not just about the Cybook. The reason it is there so often is that next to the more expensive iLiad, it will be the second one to be officially sold in France. You'll find information on any subject, just ask for it. We'll translate every official information you need. And if it's not been discussed ... we're pretty creative.

I'll hope there'll be no need for translation, even if I can make many mistakes writing in english, I can easily read and understand even complex technical documents.
The thread you mentionned seems in fact really interesting !
I'm used to reading on my nx70 and love the backlight for many reasons (not the least the fact that I can read while someone else is sleeping next to me

).
But I'm also used to have the greatest difficulties to 'e-read' under even the lightest outside sunny day. And I'm curious to see what can be done with eink, as I've never had the chance to try any of this hardware.
My plan is to try and get an used PRS-500 from the US at as low a price as possible, for my first step in eink geekerie

Then, I'll know where to go from there

Yeah! I saw your posts at the flea market.

BTW The best featuree of an old eink is reading in the sunshine. Not as bright and blinding as paper and much clearer than any LCD.
