Thanks for letting us know. I only had one problem with a letter kept typing. My kindle did reboot twice but I don't think that had anything to do with the rattling. I haven't heard the rattling for the last few days so the piece must have lodged somewhere. I was worried that even though it seems to not really have any problems right now whatever is loose in there would cause problems later on. I didn't want to return it right now because 1. didn't know if I would get a replacement right away and 2. didn't want another kindle with the same problem. My kindle is a wifi only also. |

Mine is also a WiFi version, and doubles as a maraca. I can throw some Miami Sound Machine on the mp3 player and go to town. Sounds pretty widespread, so I think I may register my issue with C/S but hold off on a replacement until they figure out which batches are affected, or address the issue in manufacturing. |

Miami sound machine? Let me guess, you must be over 50. My dad used to listen to them! |

Bzzt. Incorrect. I'm not much of a fan really, but maracas galore. I wonder how many people over 50 have adopted e-readers. I know my stepmother has, but I'll bet that's a tough market to crack with gadgets. Anyhow...

I am over 60 and I have always loved computers and gadgets just not able to afford that many. I have lots of friends my age that have iphones and ebook readers. It is our big thing to not have to carry around a lot of dead wood. Chuck |

Yes, but do you listen to Miami Sound Machine? (Sorry! That was my last off-topic post, I promise) |

I took mine apart. There was a tiny screw loose just rolling around. I wouldn't recommend taking it apart though, there's a lot that can go wrong. I took it apart and pulled the ribbon out and I thought I broke the Kindle ( I wasn't aware that I had done it at the time ). I took it apart again and plugged the ribbon back in. Good as new. No freezes or anything yet, before or after disassembly. |

Is there any indication of where the screw should have been? Maybe there's an area on the motherboard that's missing a screw? Are all of the screws inside the same size, so that that loose screw looks just like the rest of them? Thanks

There were several empty places where it could have belonged to (screw holes, if you will). I suspect they had a screw put in where there was no threads, perhaps. I didn't spend too much time looking for it though, since I was thrilled not to have a broken Kindle anymore. Looks like all the screws were the same size. Quote:

Do you think there's any danger in leaving the screw to roll around in there? Is there any reason to get a rattling kindle exchanged?

For one thing, the extra crashes caused by this would be annoying just by itself.
