Where/What is B007?

Based on reports here in the Kindle forum I've updated the Visual Kindle Guide with the new serial numbers.

B001 = Kindle 1

B002 = Kindle 2 U.S. (Sprint)

B003 = Kindle 2 International (AT&T)

B004 = Kindle DX U.S.

B005 = Kindle DX International

B006 = Kindle 3 3G + WiFi

B008 = Kindle 3 WiFi

B009 = Kindle DX Graphite

I've noticed that B007 has been skipped. What does this mean? A new version of the DX perhaps (it does have a 2-3 week delayed shipping notice on the buy page).

Let the speculation begin!

It has been reserved for secret service agents only.

It also has an accelerometer that can be shaken, not tilted.

You find this on the back of the kindle on the bottom?

Mine says D009..... Mine's a Graphite 3g+Wifi..

You are seeing the model number on the back of the device. You will also see an FCC ID number and a IC number.

To see the serial number go to Settings and look at the Serial Number under Device Info.

Your serial number starts with a "D" and not a "B"? Might be time for more speculation.

Currently no FCC info on a new DX model, but that doesn't really mean anything as Amazon might not have filed for FCC approval yet. Amazon can piggyback on the original DX FCC approval of the 3G radio as long as they use the same hardware, but if they add WiFi they must get a new approval since the DX doesn't have that hardware.

When I get my K3 tomorrow I'll search FCC database for any new K3 models, but I doubt there will be any this soon.

On the lighter side, my vote is for the Secret Squirrel edition.

(For those of you old enough to remember that cartoon from the 1960s.)

That is the model number not the serial number. Model numbers start with "D" and serial numbers start with "B".

I vaguely remember he wore a trenchcoat and a hat he pulled down so far over his face that he had to cut eye holes in the crown to see. I guess he was a squirrely James Bond!
