I can appreciate the idea of living a minimalist life. I live in a house of 2 pack rats, and we closed out the Mother-in-laws house this summer so she could go live with the sister-in-law. Now we have all of our junk, plus a huge pile of her stuff we did not want to get rid of. I can barely turn around in my house, now. I gave away sacks full of stuff, but there is still so much more to go through. Minimalist sounds really appealing to me right now. Of course, I have to keep my thousands of books. They should count as one item, right?

Wasn't there a news story a while ago about a couple who neglected a baby because they were more interested in a virtual baby ? | |

Mmmm... in other places and/or other times, babies were/are drowned at birth because they're "defective", or the females mutilated in their very intimate parts. Unlike in these times, said behaviors were considered a social norm and applauded. The very exceptional and yellow-press testimonial of a couple of people who can't distinguish reality from virtual things wouldn't move me to make broad statements about "our times".

So the conclusion is: Minimalism is OK. Parasitism is not OK.
