It's not the hinge that's the problem, it's that since Sony moved the left side page turn buttons to the right, it becomes awkward as the cover (when folded back) sticks out to the right where the page turn buttons have been moved to.

I find that the bevel on the right side makes the page turn buttons a little difficult to press at times. I find holding the book from the left corner and using the under side of my thumb knuckle to turn pages works much better. The bevel seems like a great idea (it keeps the cover from turning pages) but the number buttons get pressed by the cover anyway, so I'm not sure the point. Not a big deal at all, just the closest thing to a gripe I've found yet. |

I like the old style cover attachment also. Now the 505 flops around in the cover, does not seem as solidly attached as with the 500. IMHO the old attachment ring was pretty neat. Also its hard for me to get used to the power switch on the top, i liked it more on the side |

I have to agree with JSWolf. I am not a fan of how the new cover works when you fold it back. It's... clumsy.

A simple clamshell cover with an integrated heat sensitive keyboard would get my attention. |

Is it possible to use the old 500 cover on the new 505 readers?

Well I have to say that since I received my 505 on Monday I've had no issues with the cover at all. I hold it like a book and everything feels "right" to me. I wouldn't feel right "folding it back" anyway. I use the page buttons on the right-hand bevel and I'm loving the experience so far. The page-flipping flash has not bothered me at all, and getting started with the Library software was a breeze. I'm all loaded up for my UK trip in November. A colleague of mine is so impressed she's getting one for herself, mostly because of the sizing options (she's getting close to retirement so it will be good for her eyes). Oh, and I picked up a "Mini Note Filer" by Globe-Weis (Item 37045) on the clearance rack at Staples. All of $0.50. I ripped out the pockets and things, stuck in some foam sheets in either side, and my Reader sits snugly inside. A perfect fit really. Not really a "hard" case, but for my purposes I think it will serve admirably. |

Ever since I got my 500 Reader in March, the battery only lasts me three weeks. I know because I have been tracking it on the calendar. I started when I first had problems with the meter, until Sony fixed it with the revision. Has anyone else anything to add about the battery life on either model? -Seth San Francisco, CA |
